Golfer’s at the Island Golf Course will encounter a novel new hazard on the 15th green; a red-and-white, candy-striped replica of the White Shoals, Michigan lighthouse.

The lighthouse is the 16th replica erected by the Lake Havasu Lighthouse Club on the lake. It was dedicated November 4th, 2008 during a ceremony attended by about 120 people.

The White Shoals replica lighthouse was sponsored by club members Janet and Ginger Sundin, and was dedicated in Eric Sundin’s memory.

The Sundin’s are from Michigan and have a photograph of them standing in front of the actual 121-foot-high lighthouse that stands in the straits of Mackinac between Lake Michican and Lake Huron.

Similar to all lighthouse installed by the club, the White Shoals replica is equipped with a solar-powered lamp that has a range of 3.5 miles and functions as a navigation light on the lake.

The next lighthouse to be dedicated will be a replica of the Algoma Pierhead light at Spectator Point. The replica, which is being sponsored by Lyle and Stellene Matzdorff, is currently under construction. The original stands on Lake Michigan near Green Bay, Wisconsin.
